D+U Das Haus is a 1,540 square foot residence consisting of two bedrooms and two baths organized around a center Great Room. The plan strives to maximize ADA Principles and healthcare planning goals to achieve a flexible wellness environment for its owners facing the challenges of aging and illness. The Great Room takes advantage of south and west exposures allowing sunlight to penetrate its interiors and adjacent rooms through ground level and clerestory windows that wraps is perimeter facades. Privacy is achieved through the homes orientation, setback of volumes, and directions of forms allowing the ownership and functionality to be in solitude. The overall organizational driver was to provide an exterior space to the south west accessed by a bifolding La Cantina door that fosters a direct relationship with kitchen an outdoor room which receives afternoon and evening soon for casual leisure.
