An existing 1950s brick clad home is transformed into a modern dwelling expressed by shed roofs and accents of cedar. The design consists of a new kitchen addition to the west that allows for maximizing a new Great Room and links to an existing bedroom repurposed as a family study area. A 1,000 square foot second level is constructed providing for three bedrooms, two baths, laundry room, and bonus sitting area with regional views east to the Olympic Mountains and west to a giant cedar tree that anchors the property. Maximizing daylight through clerestory windows in both the bonus sitting area and new kitchen provides for a naturally lit environment in frequently occupied spaces for the family. The exterior is cladded using a combination of fiber cement plank and panel, with clear cedar siding accenting prominent features such as the bay windows for the children’s bedrooms and the kitchen and exterior patio area.
