ABKJ provided design services for the 475’ pedestrian bridge that links the glass museum’s rooftop plaza with the Washington State History Museum. The bridge takes pedestrians through a corridor of brilliant light and color created by world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.
This bridge links downtown Tacoma to the Thea Foss Waterway and provides an artistic connection between the Union Station Historic District and the Museum of Glass. Spanning 500’ over the I-705 freeway, BNSF railroad tracks, and Dock Street, this gateway structure is comprised of concrete deck on steel girders supported by very thin columns.
